What made you strike this business idea? What inspired you to start this company?

Vincent – Expy in particular emerged during my work with YouTuber Eric Tabach, as we grew his YouTube channel to 300K subscribers in less than 1 year. During this time, it was fascinating to see how in the US, a creator’s growth is met with equally powerful tools to help sustain and scale personal brands to turn into empires. On the other hand, the Indian creator economy is set to grow well beyond the one in the US in the coming years, yet there aren’t many localized tools to help the pioneers of the space to grow beyond a digital creative and into a brand. That was the eureka moment!

When did you start your business?

Vincent – The creator space in India has fascinated our team for well over a year. In early 2020, we (as HelloStar Media) began to launch separate products to see what creators and their audience would like within their digital multiverse.

What does success mean to your company?

Vincent – Success means seeing more creators take the leap of faith in India (whether artists, educators, entertainers, etc.) and pursue the career they desire within the digital space, having the confidence that Expy will help them build their brand from a single page.

How are you performing currently? 

We have been live for a couple of months and I couldn’t be ever more excited! Our weekly creator base keeps growing beyond our target estimates and a very unique community of early creators is being developed, with lots of activity on socials (especially on Twitter).

What is the biggest risk to your company?

Vincent – There is only the theoretical risk of social media platforms building a native tool of similar sorts. However, social media networks don’t want people leaving their platforms to go to other sites. That is why it hasn’t and won’t be a practical threat!

What are your plans for the funding?

Vincent – Up until now, we have bootstrapped Expy to enable the most flexibility and control to grow exactly as we envisioned. Now, as we have solidified our key viral growth loops – we plan on scaling big and fast. For this, we will be raising a seed round closer to the autumn!

What is the biggest challenge you faced during your start-up setup?

Vincent – I always describe our mission as bringing the best of the US creator economy to India’s emerging creator space. With this, it has of course been to work cross-continents and get the best of both worlds! However now we have gotten into a great flow and it will only get better in the hopeful future.

What does growth mean to you and your business?

Vincent – From a metrics standpoint, growth is the only key metric that matters! For us at Expy, it is community growth that is key. We do not only aim to expand our creator base using Expy, yet establish a continuous relationship with them and find ways to truly push the creator economy to the next level in India.

How does your product stand different from others in the market?

Vincent – Expy re-imagines what a creator’s homepage should do, and focuses on a large, underserved community that is in need of tailored tools – creators in India. There are too many un-localized “Bring Your Own Audience” platforms and fees for Indian creators to keep up with, while no single platform can capture all the value from followers that want to engage in different ways.

Where are your start-up services spread?

Vincent – Our key and only market for now is India and our primary growth channels have been through socials (Twitter, Instagram, YouTube…) – referrals, demonstrations, active sharing.

What does it feel like to be the founder of your start-up? How does it feel to get up every morning and getting on to work?

Vincent – I am grateful and blessed! Grateful for this opportunity to help a unique community of people and blessed for embarking on this journey with an extremely talented team that runs Expy’s engine. Monday mornings have never felt as exciting and refreshing as they have since Expy was born!
