Jindal Stainless partners with Amida Cleantech to launch ‘Sanjeevan’ clean-air initiative at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham

By

Jindal Stainless has announced the implementation of an advanced air-purification programme titled Sanjeevan at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham, located near Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Amida Cleantech Private Limited and represents the company’s largest corporate social responsibility effort to date.

The programme introduces a specially designed ambient air purification system within the ramp building complex of the temple area. The project aligns with the goals of the National Clean Air Programme under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, focusing on improving environmental conditions in highly sensitive public spaces. Approval for the installation was granted by the temple authorities to help manage emissions originating from the cremation activities at the ghat.

The system deploys AMIDA’s proprietary ACE+ technology — validated by government agencies including NITI Aayog — engineered to attract, trap, and neutralise pollutants. The technology is capable of removing particulate matter ranging from nano-scale black carbon to larger airborne particles, including pollen and organic dust. It also targets gaseous pollutants such as sulphur oxides and nitrogen oxides, along with microbial contaminants like bacteria and viruses.

A total of 58 stainless-steel purification units have been installed under the project, designed to process more than 300,000 cubic metres of air per hour. The large-scale filtration is expected to significantly improve air quality in the temple corridor and surrounding areas frequented daily by pilgrims and residents.

During the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony, attended by Abhyuday Jindal, Vishwa Bhushan Mishra of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust, and Siddharth Dixit, the partners highlighted the importance of combining industrial capability with indigenous innovation to address environmental challenges in heritage zones.

Jindal Stainless noted that the initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainability and community welfare. By enhancing air quality at one of India’s most visited spiritual destinations, the company aims to support both public health and the preservation of historic structures exposed to continuous pollution.

Amida Cleantech emphasised that its ACE+ platform was developed to combat rising urban air contamination across sectors and locations. The organisation reiterated its mission of delivering practical clean-air solutions that protect people and ecosystems.

Local authorities welcomed the initiative, recognising its potential to reduce particulate concentration along the temple access corridor and capture a substantial portion of emissions from cremation processes. In addition to improving breathing conditions for devotees, priests, and residents, the system is expected to slow deterioration of building surfaces within the temple complex.

The Sanjeevan project demonstrates how targeted technological deployment in culturally significant public areas can meaningfully contribute to healthier environments while supporting heritage conservation.
