In a recent abundance of electronic vehicles being rolled out by major companies- another one joins the list. This time, it’s a power couple.
A recent newsworthy collaboration has come to light. Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML), or, its more renowned brand name Jio-BP and Mahindra Group have collaborated on a project that could have wide-ranging possibilities in the electronic vehicle sector. They announced on Tuesday a non-binding MoU to explore the creation of electronic vehicles, offer services and identify an alternative future in low carbon emissions and conventional fuels.
This MoU will also evaluate charging solutions by Jio-BP for Mahindra vehicles including 3 Wheelers and 4 Wheelers, quadricycles, and eSCV (small commercial vehicles).
“This Partnership aims to utilise the benefits of both companies joining hands in the areas of EV products and services,” Read a joint statement released by both the companies. “Mahindra group and its channel partner locations will be evaluated for setting up of Jio-BP mobility stations and EV charging stations and swapping points apart from harnessing existing Jio-BP stations.”
Jio-BP Recently launched its first mobility station in Maharashtra which offers countless fuelling options, including EV charging, while offering an extremely excellent retailing experience. Additionally, business models like Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and Battery as a Service (BaaS) will be looked into wherein Jio-BP could help out for offering charging solutions to vehicles made by Mahindra group.”
Mahindra has always been a pioneer in the electronic vehicle sector in India, along with the acquisition of Reva a few years back. Unfortunately, its ambitions were handicapped due to a lack of infrastructure support. The electronic vehicle sector in India is still in a preliminary stage but it is starting to gain momentum and attention through this MoU. It is possible that various opportunities for orientation of database, Operations support systems, software, pilot and commercial-scale business model, and types of charging and swapping facilities are going to be explored and executed. All of this will be subject to techno-economic ease and the required approvals.
“This partnership aspires to accelerate the adoption of electronic vehicles in India with optimum performance and swappable batteries that will help in putting range anxiety to rest,” the joint statement read. “These solutions would offer great convenience 2 customers who can ideally bring in a depleted battery to the nearest swapping station and would get an efficient servicing which would enable the cars brought in to move on with new, fully charged batteries by paying a nominal fee. Such ingenious solutions will expand the horizons of both the companies and will help execute India’s net-zero emissions goals as quickly as possible.”
