What made you strike this business idea? What inspired you to start this company?
Amol – I was working in jobs during the years 2013-14, not feeling satisfied with work, and was looking forward to becoming financially independent so I started searching for a new business opportunity that can help me to overcome these challenges.
While I was searching I came to know multiple businesses of the future since I was not from a tech background so I was looking for non-tech kinds of products and so solar energy business clicked me for many reasons such as it renewable product, it has a long life and it has potential to change the way people use electricity today.
When did you start your business?
Amol – We started this business in the year 2018 and currently, we are India’s solar trusted brand in the residential rooftop category.
What does success mean to your company?
Amol – Our vision is to have uninterrupted 24×7 electricity in each home particularly in hill areas and small villages. If we are able to reach those people and if we can change their lifestyle in some ways, it will be a great achievement for our company.
How are you performing currently?
Amol – We are growing 3x exponentially for the last three years and now LOOM SOLAR is an accepted brand among consumers and its India’s first company that provides a super high-efficiency module. We have 100+ teams, 2500+ partners and installed this system in 50,000 homes.
What is the biggest risk to your company?
Amol – Solar is a capital-intensive business so you need more working capital to run the business and also more capital to invest in the latest plant and machinery so continuous capital is required. Our fear is if demand slows down, we will have financial challenges as its self-funded company.
What are your plans for the funding?
Amol – Last year we completed sales 100 cr and by the year 2025, we are targeting 500 cr once we achieve this milestone, we will certainly look for funding. We need more money to create consumer awareness about the product, we must develop a new high-efficiency module which can produce high energy in low space, besides we need money to expand in multiple geographies.
What is the biggest challenge you faced during your start-up setup?
Amol – In the last 3 years, we faced many challenges but getting quality manpower is the biggest challenge, reaching customers without marketing spend became a hurdle for us.
What does growth mean to you and your business?
Amol – Our objective is to develop a system where we can offer more opportunities to young people, who can join us and shape their career while fulfilling the need for electricity for the customer. If we are able to provide thousands of jobs in this journey, we would be proud to do so.
How does your product stand different from others in the market?
Amol – From day one we wanted to offer something different to the market so people can recognize us so we launched a niche product for a small group of people who can afford it so we launched a high-efficiency monocrystalline panel. It was expensive but it was reliable so customers started accepting it and gradually it helped us to spread our brand awareness among consumers.
Where are your start-up services spread?
Amol – We have a very good presence across India, we are leading in the online space, we are available on all digital platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart, and loomsolar.com other than this we have small solar shops in 500 districts of India.
What does it feel like to be the founder of your start-up? How does it feel to get up every morning and getting on to work?
Amol – It’s a very important question for me as I have done work as an employee in the past and now working as an employer. Being an employer or founder, you get recognized by the various section of people so it feels like you are contributing in some ways.
Get up in the morning and doing the jobs in building a startup and managing a large group of teams/partners gives a great feeling and self-motivation to achieve more.
Where do you see your business standing in the next 5 years?
Amol – Currently we are working for a 500 cr vision to achieve in the year 2025, since this is a new industry and growing every year by 60% so we are confident to achieve this milestone.
Who supports you to stand this business and how?
Amol – We are running this business with my brother Amol Anand who is cofounder and leading this business. We discuss the strategic and operational issues on regular basis and we take collective decisions.
