India is famous for its diversity and, of course, great love and passion for cricket. We still encounter empty roads and closed shops at the time of the t20 or World cup.

Are you a cricket lover and missing cricket badly? You can try a platform like Whomp that gives you an unmatched experience of cricket. When you cannot go out and enjoy yourself or with your friends in this pandemic situation, you can start playing cricket with them at your home by selecting your own team.

Enjoy different gameplays

Whomp offers multiple gameplays, including Super Selector, Daily Dabba, and Auction. Cricket lovers cannot stay away from these daily doses of their favorite games. Once you start playing this stupendous sport, you will get addicted to this incredible cricket magnet. You must be wondering why! Let’s find out.

Why do people love Whomp?

First of all, this one is one of the best platforms where you can flaunt your knowledge and skill of playing games in front of your buddies.

  • You can select your own tournament that you want to play with your friends.
  • All these tournaments can be customized.
  • After customizing your own tournament, you can invite your buddies to play with you. They will inevitably fall in love with it.

The best part is you can earn up to 10000 coins just by referring your friends. You will get a referral code that can be accessed by you only.

Now let’s get to know how to play this exciting game.

First of all, you’ll be amazed to know that you will feel like a real cricket team owner. That’s because Whomp is a unique platform where every team gets a specific budget along with an excellent squad size and players. A base price is also given to the users. If you want to take your favourite players in your team, you have to bid, and the winner of the bid will get his favourite players. It’s just like a realistic cricket game.

What made you strike this business idea? What inspired you to start this company?

Varun – Previously, before launching Whomp, I was an investor in Gamerji, which is an esports tournament app that hosts games such as PUBG, Call of Duty, etc. Being associated with the gaming community, I quickly learned several aspects of managing and running a gaming platform, which eventually inspired me to launch my own gaming company – Whomp.

But the idea for Whomp came about when I and my friends are avid cricket enthusiasts. During IPL we would come together and create our own cricket auction similar to the IPL. We played by keeping tabs on excel spreadsheets and paper notes. This got me thinking, what if there were an app or a platform that hosts live cricket auctions and also cricket games? To cater to this, we did more research and found that a similar game is played in the USA for the NFL. Taking insights and inspiration from it we designed our prototype and post evaluating and initial success we launched Whomp. Soon after, we added in the voice chat feature, so that players could communicate with their friends/other players to strategise, plan bids and discuss through the app itself.

When did you start your business?

Varun – We launched Whomp in July 2020.

What does success mean to your company?

Varun – Having a satisfied user coming back to play every day and also referring us to their friends is success to my company.

How are you performing currently?

Varun – We are performing very well, within weeks we have seen exceptional growth of over 50,000+ users. When we launched, on day 1, we had 1,000 users and by day 10, we already had 35,000 users. The numbers of users are rising every day, especially with the IPL right around the corner.

What is the biggest risk to your company?

Varun – The biggest risk to the company would be the halting or break in sporting events like what happened from March to July.

What are your plans for the funding?

Varun – At the moment I have invested the funds myself. We plan to raise an angel round by October. We will utilise these funds to develop and stabilize our platform for the next 6-9 months before we raise our seed round.

What is the biggest challenge you faced during your start-up setup?

Varun – After Whomp launched, the numbers of users were consistently increasing, but on day 8, within 24 hours we had over 10,000 downloads. Our server was not built to take this load. To meet the rising demand and tackle this issue, our team worked overnight to make things right. Eventually, we managed but ended up having some unsatisfied customers and to cater to them, we also opened a CRM department to handle user queries.

What does growth mean to you and your business?

Varun – Growth for us means having a better understanding of our user’s behaviour and developing more games which will increase our user stickiness and engagement.

How does your product stand different from others in the market?

Varun – Whomp’s distinctive feature is the ‘Live Auction’ gameplay. The game has been strategically designed and developed with the help of Indian cricket experts. The live auction gameplay allows players to feel the thrill to be part of a realistic cricket auction and owning a team. The players receive a virtual budget, they get to strategize, plan bids and select and build their own teams. At Whomp, you can play with your friends, rather than strangers. The platform also offers a voice chat feature through which you can communicate with friends whilst playing the live auction. The app is free of cost and is available on both android Playstore and iOS App store.

Where are your start-up services spread?

Varun – Whomp is based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India and the app is available Pan-India.

What does it feel to be the founder of your start-up? How does it feel getting up every morning and getting on to work?

Varun – Every morning or rather all 24×7 hours are exciting because I am pursuing my passion. Yes, of course, there are issues and challenges that come up every day which I personally like to solve. In addition, seeing Whomp being used by people, also being attentive to the positive as well as negative feedback helps me improve daily.

Where do you see your business standing in the next 5 years?

Varun – We see our selves as the leader in sports-based games in India and a major player in esports in India in next 5 years.

Who supports you to stand this business and how?

Varun – I am a third-generation entrepreneur and have always looked up to my father as my inspiration. Seeing his journey of building everything from scratch gives me a lot of inspiration to build a business on my own. He is my go-to person whenever I am stuck with any issues in my life whether personal or business-related. God has also been kind to me to give me mentors and connects every stage in life who have helped me overcome the challenges I have faced.
